Blooming Brave: Self-Defense Talks with Dragon

Entry from Viola Belle

Today, I learned something brave.

Sometimes the world asks little ones to grow big in the face of things that feel confusing or scary. But courage doesn’t always roar. Sometimes, it’s a whisper in the garden—“I trust myself.” “I know when something doesn’t feel right.”

This lesson took me back to The Grove, where I’ve had to trust my instincts many times.

One of the most vivid memories I have is from the time I was helping Aunt C’Anna gather some herbs for our afternoon tea. The air was thick with the scent of lavender, and everything felt peaceful. But as I was picking a sprig of mint, I felt a sudden pull, a twinge at the back of my mind. It wasn’t loud or dramatic—it was just a small, quiet voice. Something didn’t feel right.

I stood there for a moment, taking a deep breath. That’s when I noticed a small crack in the glass panel above me. It had been there for a while, unnoticed, but my instincts had picked up on it before I could even see it. I showed Aunt C’Anna, and we were able to fix it before the rain came. If I hadn’t trusted that tiny feeling inside, the greenhouse might have been flooded! It’s just one of those little moments where your gut tells you something important.

That’s why, this week, I’ve been learning about self-defense—especially focusing on Internet safety and trusting those little tugs inside that tell us when something doesn’t feel right. It’s not just about being physically strong; it’s about learning to trust ourselves—inside and out. Aunt C’Anna and I are practicing these skills together, and I’m excited to keep growing strong.

Aunt C’Anna shared a very special video with me from a place called Dragon Gym. It’s the first of three lessons called 25 Self-Defense Techniques Every Child Should Know. It teaches how to stand tall, say “NO,” and listen to the tiny tugs inside that tell us when something is off. That’s what we’re focusing on this week—Internet Safety and Trusting Instincts—because being wise online starts with feeling safe inside.

Here’s the magical link that opens up the first part:

25 Kids Self-Defense Techniques – Part 1: The Basics

As always, I do my best to make sure the resources I share are trustworthy—but even in Essence Grove, it’s important to double check with a grown-up you trust.

Let’s keep growing strong together.

With lavender and light,

Viola Belle
